Quick Q’s on wine & winemaking
Our steep slopes and sandy, chalky soil are the very elements that make our wines distinctive, and our team works with those elements rather than against them. We plant thoughtful cover crops with no-till seeding to protect soil health and attract beneficial insects. Drip irrigation and soil probes help us water only when and where it's needed.
Owl and kestrel boxes support natural pest control, and solar-powered lasers keep birds at bay—humanely. And, our vineyard work is increasingly mechanized and informed by technology for precision and a smaller carbon footprint.
At Gem 73, sustainability isn’t a strategy—it’s a responsibility. Every bottle is a promise to care for this land, which makes it all possible..
Winemaking at Gem 73 is a steadfast pursuit of excellence, rooted in tradition and driven by innovation. But when the bottle has been opened, it’s not about tech and spec sheets. It’s about presence, comfort, ease, and connection. Gem 73 is committed to making wine for you – wine that you can sip, share, and enjoy in our welcoming spaces, in your home, or wherever life takes you.
Idaho is known as the Gem State for good reason – we've got 72 different gemstones tucked away throughout our rugged landscape! Gem 73 represents the next precious discovery. Just like those gems formed under unique conditions deep in the earth, our wines come from unique natural resources: steep vineyard slopes with chalky soils that you won't find anywhere else. We think our wines capture the same kind of rare, authentic character that makes Idaho's gemstones so unique – they're both born from this incredible place we call home.
We're nestled in the heart of Idaho's Snake River Valley, just a short drive from Boise, where the landscape creates something truly magical for winemaking. Our vineyards climb steep slopes covered in distinctive sandy, chalky soils you won't find replicated elsewhere. This unique terroir gives our grapes a character that's authentically Idaho – shaped by the same geological forces that created the state's famous gemstones. The combination of our elevation, slope exposure, and mineral-rich soil creates the perfect conditions for grapes that truly express this special corner of the world.

A SPACE TO GATHER (coming soon)
While we’re eager for you to enjoy Gem 73 wines around a home-cooked meal, we’re also cooking up something special – a welcoming space in downtown Boise made for easy gatherings. Think big windows, comfortable seating, and our highest priority – good conversation.
Even more exciting? We’ve broken ground on an immersive tasting sanctuary at the top of our dramatic Lanae Ridge Vineyard in Sunnyslope. Nestled among the vines, experience will feature small bites, intentional design, and space for both big and small gatherings... and of course, exceptional wine, that will feel timeless and meaningful.

Did you Know
Idaho was the true pioneer of Pacific Northwest wine! The first vineyards in the Pacific Northwest were actually planted in Idaho in 1864 by French immigrants Louis Desol and Robert Schleicher, and German immigrant Jacob Schaefer, before grapes were ever planted in Washington or Oregon.
